There are an abundance of
landscaping design themes to choose
from when you begin to decide what landscape
plans you will make to design your lawn. One of the first
decisions you need to make when determining how you will design your
successful landscaping ideas is
whether you would like a formal or informal landscape design. Of
course
you can create an extremely formal landscape or an extremely informal
landscape, but most home gardeners choose a blend somewhere in
between.
Formal landscape designs will incorporate more
repetition and rhythm by organizing the
garden design and landscape with an equal distribution of
colors, shapes and styles of
garden plants.
This means if you decide to plant a row of pink petunias on the left
border of a landscape that you will also want to incorporate a row of
pink
petunias on the right border of a landscape to even things out. Of
course
you dont have to follow a pattern of left to right, there are an
abundance of patterns and geometric shapes that you can follow, but
there
should be some type of rhyme and reason, or a system, to the design
your
create.
Informal designs will seem a bit more throw together,
even if you have taken the time to put the garden together. Most
informal
designs will follow the free flowing shape of the yard or
home landscaping area, rather than
following a geometric design implemented by the gardener. It is a lot
easier to establish informal garden designs if you have a yard that is
not
symmetrical in size and shape or one that has a great deal of twists
and
turns, making it hard for an onlooker to see the entire yard at once.
Informal garden designs give the gardener a better opportunity to play
with a variety of different garden plants and
garden flowers, adding in bits and pieces as they go.
When creating your landscaping design theme, you will
also want to take into consideration whether you are designing the
front
yard or the backyard. The front yard is often seen by passersby and
offers
a first impression of the home as visitors head up to the front door
from
the
walkway design. Usually the
front yard is a great place for a formal garden design, one that
offers
flowers and plants arranged in symmetrical fashion, with plenty of
free
space in between the different plants, to offer a clean, fresh looking
front yard. For those who want to landscape the backyard, this usually
allows more freedom to play with shapes and designs a bit more. Since
the
first impression of your home is not the backyard, then you can play
with
developing a more natural or wildlife feel to the backyard if you
prefer.
Especially because many backyards are not symmetrical in fashion or
are
rearranged because of garden sheds,
pool landscaping, or
deck designs, you will find yourself needing to work around these
and planting an array
of different flowers and plants.
No matter what landscape design theme you select for
your yard, remember to take the time to design the landscape on paper
or
computer software before getting starting and also spend time placing
the
plants in containers and stepping back to examine the design before
actually implementing it by planting. It is much easier to change the
design while it is still on paper then when you actually begin to
plant!
